Grundy Center tax rate to stay steady, taxes to climb
GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center residential property owners can look forward to more money coming out of their pockets for taxes next year despite the City holding the line on tax rates.
Monday the Grundy Center City Council gave preliminary approval to a Fiscal 2015 budget that keeps an identical 15.60209 levy rate per $1,000 taxable valuation. The budget includes an estimated $210,658 drop in revenue, all and more coming from the “Other Financing Sources,” that City Clerk Kristy Sawyer said was due to the purchase of geo bonds for the upcoming street light and sidewalk project.
The city also estimates collecting more than $10,000 less in property taxes this year in large part due to changes in the way the state taxes business property.
