Pierce named NICL West Player of the Year

Two weeks after leading his team to its first outright North Iowa Cedar League West Division title in several years, Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior Zach Pierce has another honor for his scrapbook — that of league Player of the Year.
Pierce was named to the spot as league coaches announced their all-conference picks Monday. He is one of four Gladbrook-Reinbeck players on the team, joining Camden Kickbush (first team), Joe Smoldt (second team) and Colton Dinsdale (honorable mention).
Pierce was a force inside for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, averaging 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per league game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He also had 18 blocks, 24 assists and 15 steals.
Kickbush was G-R’s second-leading scorer, averaging 12.2 points while draining 25 3-pointers. He also had 54 assists and 30 steals.
Joining the G-R duo locally on the first team is AGWSR’s Austin Heitland, who averaged 12.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He shot 60 percent from the field and recorded 23 blocked shots.
