Supervisors, engineer’s office discuss right of way request

GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved a request from the Grundy County Engineer’s Office to attempt to purchase right of way near a pair of bridges that will be repaired in the near future.
County Engineer Gary Mauer approached the Supervisors with the plan to buy right of way near bridge H-10 south of Dike on 180th Street and bridge N-17 west of Conrad on H Avenue.
Debate on the issue stemmed on what the county should offer land owners for the land. Supervisor Jim Ross noted that because the land in question is not prime cropland, the County should not offer as much as it would if it was asking a farmer to take prime land out of production.
Mauer suggested hiring an appraiser, though Assistant Engineer Steve Cox noted that a reason not to hire an appraiser is to make the transition easier.
