Pair of firsts lead Spartan boys to seventh at Hampton-Dumont

HAMPTON — Grundy Center claimed a pair of individual event titles on its way to a seventh-place finish in the Hampton-Dumont Invitational last Monday.
The Spartans finished with 53 points, scoring six top-five finishes in the meet. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura won the meet with 144 ½ points while Clarion-Goldfield (119) and Denver (100) rounded out the top three.
Spartan champions included Brock Rohler in the discus and Jordan Stoner in the 110-meter hurdles. Stoner finished in 16.12 seconds to edge second-place Clint Kannegieter of Aplington-Parkersburg by .27 seconds. Rohler threw the discus 140 feet to win by more than four feet over Clarion-Goldfield’s Mitch Gambril.
