After two-year absence, Spartans return to top of own invitational
GRUNDY CENTER — For 11 consecutive years the top spot at the Spartan Invitational boys’ golf tournament had been reserved for the home team. And after two years away, Grundy Center is back on top.
The Spartans had four individuals place in the top eight, including meet medalist Lane Bangassser, on their way to a 14-shot victory in the tournament Saturday at the Town and Country Golf Club.
Bangasser’s round of 80 featured the only sub-40 round of the day, as strong winds from the east kept scores from dropping low. Austin Burroughs was third in the medalist race with an 84 while Nick Saak was sixth with an 86 and Sam Thompson eighth with an 87.
