Area athletes compete at elite Drake Relays

DES MOINES – Five area athletes qualified to compete in the high school division of the Drake Relays held at Drake Stadium Thursday through Saturday of last week.
AGWSR’s Clay Meinders competed in the shot put event, earning a top 10 finish with a seventh place throw of 51 feet 11 ¾ inches.
Carson Parker and Ben Cuvelier of Dike-New Hartford both qualified in two events. Parker tied for ninth place in the high jump with a leap of six feet five inches. Cuvelier clocked a time of 15.017 seconds in the 110-meter hurdle prelim, which just missed qualifying for the final by .006 seconds. The Wolverine 4 x 400-meter relay team of Parker, Cuvelier, Connor Blough, and John Crew ran a time of 3:25.44 in the prelim, landing them in the 15th spot among a competitive field.
