After much discussion, Board OKs teacher contract

    GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center Community School District certified staff members will receive the contract they negotiated for, though it did not come without a lengthy discussion by the District’s School Board.
    Last Wednesday the Board approved a contract with the Grundy Center Educators Association that brings a 3.73 percent total package increase as well as several language changes.
    Director Ron Saak expressed concern about what the settlement will do to the District’s financial situation. At its regular March meeting, the Board learned of a $280,000 drop in spending authority, and the additional expense only adds to the concern.
    “Somehow we have to figure out how to make cuts,” he said.
