Stumberg closes out strong career at state

DES MOINES – Grundy Center’s Hannah Stumberg wrapped up her high school track career with a fourth consecutive appearance at the state meet. Stumberg qualified in three events and ran in the 4 x 800-meter relay on Thursday and the 800-meter run on Saturday.
The 4 x 800 team of Piper Johanns, Kayla Mathews, Katie Lindeman, and Stumberg placed fifth in Class 1A on Thursday with a time of 10:02.66.
On Saturday Stumberg went 11th in 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.08, leaving everything on the track in the last race of her career.
“It was a really good feeling to come back four years and compete with my teammates,” Stumberg said. “We put a lot of hard work in. It is definitely bittersweet. I am going to miss everyone and competing, but I guess it’s time for me to be done.”
