Former superintendent reflects on six years in Grundy Center

    GRUNDY CENTER — The past six years have seen ups and downs for now former Grundy Center Superintendent Cassi Murra.
    From the success of the School District’s technology program and its hosting the Global Forum for Physical Education Pedagogy to the failure of a bond issue to bring expanded space to the district, Murra
has been at the forefront of the it for the past six years, including the past four as superintendent.
    “Being a Spartan and being in Grundy Center has just been incredible for me and my family,” she said. “One of the things that I really appreciate is the caring sense of the community, from the first day we came to town and the invitations to join groups and to become members, whether its in church, in Kiwanis, the Wellness Committee, there’s so many different areas where people get active and involved, and I think in a small community that seems to be rare.”
    Murra said one of the difficult things about leaving the district is leaving behind the relationships she has made with members of the close-knit staff.
    “I’ve been in five other school districts, and the Grundy Center staff is just a family,” she said. “They treat each other very well, they care about kids, they care about families … and they always want to do the right thing, whether it’s as an individual or as a team, and they always act as a team.”
