Grundy Center residents ask County to pay for state highway runoff damage
GRUNDY CENTER — The discussion of who will pay for runoff-related damages on G Avenue (Highway 14/175) in Grundy Center reached an agreement to disagree Monday, with one side claiming the County should compensate property owners for damages and the other saying the damages are not their responsibility.
Rich and Shirley Ahlberg and Vi Roberts, residents of the 400 block of G Avenue in Grundy Center, claim the County should compensate them for damages to their properties caused by runoff that occurred after an Iowa Department of Transportation project to resurface the road in 2007. The DOT contracted the Grundy County Engineer’s Office to inspect the project and has told Rich Ahlberg that the County is responsible for any damage created by the project.
