Stoakes runs for 198 as Rebels shut out Denver

GLADBROOK — Eric Stoakes ran for 198 yards and two touchdowns, lifting Gladbrook-Reinbeck to its second straight shutout victory Friday, 43-0 over Denver.
The Rebels (3-1 overall, 2-0 in Class A, District 4) held Denver to 211 offensive yards and forced three turnovers. After allowing 25 points in each of their first two games, G-R has held back-to-back opponents off the scoreboard. Rebel coach John Olson said the 25 points his team allowed the first two weeks is deceiving.
“In game one we gave up a punt return and had two offensive turnovers that set up two 10-yard touchdown drives against Union, and in game two we played very solid defense, but made three or four mistakes, and against a team like Dike they made us pay with long runs. In general we have improved each week and made small adjustments to some of our techniques to become an overall better defense.”
