Cougars snap long Wapsie Valley district streak

ACKLEY — AGWSR rushed for 444 yards on its way to a dominating 41-12 homecoming victory over Wapsie Valley in a clash of Class A, District 4 leaders.
The third-ranked Cougars (4-0 overall, 2-0 in District 4) won for the 13th time in their last 14 regular-season games while sending eighth-ranked Wapsie Valley (2-2 overall, 1-1 in District 4) to its first district loss since Oct. 14, 2011.
“We did a great job,” Cougar coach Skip Eckhardt said. “That’s a program that’s been great since I was a kid, they have great coaches, they do things the right way.”
AGWSR leaned heavily on its powerful running game to keep the ball out of the Warriors hands. The Cougars racked up 22 first downs and held the ball for more than 30 minutes. Junior Levi Stockdale paced the Cougars with 192 yards and three touchdowns while Josh Balvanz rushed for 77 yards, Clay Meinders 73, Mason Eilderts 52 and Cody Williams 47. Williams also threw for 56 yards, completing 2-of-4 pass attempts.
