Fellowship of Christian Athletes returns to GCHS

GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center High School health teacher Stephanie Hasken found something missing when she came to the school two years ago. It was a group that she had been involved in since high school and that she never lost the passion for.
And it did not take her long to find students with the same fire and passion. Now the second-year teacher has helped fill that gap, bringing a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group back to the school after a long absence.
“The summer of my acceptance here I ran into about four (Grundy Center) students at the FCA summer camp, and it was there that some of the kids asked me if we were going to start FCA here in Grundy Center,” she said. “I said ‘Yes - that was a goal.’ They were passionate. Not only the students, but their parents were passionate about it, too.”
Hasken got involved in FCA while a student at Davenport West High School and had remained involved throughout her time at Central College in Pella. She said the group tied together what she called the two best things in the world — athletics and her faith in God.
