Local schools dominate 2014 headlines
School-related topics dominated the headlines in Grundy County during 2014. From closing a lightly- used building in Grundy Center to Dike-New Hartford earning the state’s first Safe School Certification to a pair of new superintendents to no fewer than three state sports championships, local schools were featured on the front page of The Grundy Register nearly every week.
Thus it seems appropriate that school-related stories dominate this year’s list of top stories. School stories take three of the top five spots on this year’s list, which was chosen by Grundy Register editor John Jensen. The list also features three stories related directly to Grundy Center city business, two related to the weather and one related to county business.
THIS YEAR’S TOP STORY, ABOUT the Grundy Center School Board voting to close its Upper Elementary building, has had the city buzzing every since. The closure leaves questions about where the Grundy Community Preschool and Childcare Center (GCPCC) and Grundy Community YMCA will hold programs they currently host in the building.
