Spartans hold off East Marshall rally

LeGRAND – Grundy Center held off a furious East Marshall fourth-quarter rally to snap a three-game losing streak with a 55-46 victory Friday in LeGrand.
The Spartans (10-7 overall, 7-5 in the NICL West Division) led by 15 points in the third quarter before the Mustangs closed to within two points in the fourth.
“The girls stepped up,” Coach Matt Lindeman said. “We’ve done that at different times. We hit a key stretch there where Jill (Itzen) hit a key bucket and we weren’t necessarily looking for a shot but she reacted and made a nice bucket to extend it.”
GC trailed only very briefly in the game, but needed to hit its final seven free throws to secure its second nine-point victory over East Marshall on the season.
