Answers a long time coming for Decker family
GRUNDY CENTER — “You can’t even explain what it’s like to parent a special needs kid,” Breezy Decker said. “You can’t and that’s fine. I am so happy for those that don’t get it.”
New parents tend to ask themselves lots of questions. Am I doing this right? Is it normal for him to eat this much or this little? When will we get sleep again? But for Mike and Breezy Decker, the questions were not normal. They wondered why their son wasn’t reaching the milestones they kept reading about. She wondered by the time he was six months old if she was raising a child with special needs.
“He was one of those kids who you instantly fell in love with,” Breezy said of her son, Garrett. “He was super easy as an infant. We came to a point where we thought, ‘Maybe this kid is too easy?’”
