Iconic elementary teacher retires after 45 great years

GRUNDY CENTER — Andrea Doubet may not know what to do with herself when school returns this fall. Every year since she was 5 years old the routine has been the same whether she was in elementary school, high school, college or teaching herself. Next year, however, will be different.
Last Friday the long-time Grundy Center teacher said goodbye to her final set of students for a final time, ending a 45-year teaching career that started the same place it ended, in Grundy Center.
“It’s hard every year (to see the students go), but it was a lot harder this year,” she said.
Doubet’s teaching career in Grundy Center started just after she graduated from UNI in 1970. She has taught her students’ children and even some of their grandchildren.
“I never expected (to stay in Grundy Center this long), but it’s a small enough system that every year something changed so I didn’t teach the same thing,” she said.
