Split vote sinks zoning ordinance change
GRUNDY CENTER — A proposed zoning ordinance that would have added conditional uses will not become law in Grundy County.
County Zoning Administrator Carie Sager approached the Supervisors several weeks ago with a proposal to return conditional uses back into to the ordinance.
“They were previously there but there were no conditional uses listed under the districts, so this just adds it back into it so that we have ways to classify different kinds of businesses or different special uses that, maybe, we don’t have a place to put them now,” Sager said. “It could also have conditions added to those uses. It’s a way to either put certain types of structures or different uses into the ordinance where we don’t have a place for them now.”
Sager said the County Zoning Board had approved the proposal. The final approval, however, had to come from the Supervisors. Though there was no discussion about the ordinance at Monday’s meeting, some members of the Board had expressed concerns about the ordinance being too restrictive in the past.
The vote came out 2-2 with Supervisors Chuck Bakker and Mark Schildroth in favor and Harlyn RIekena and Jim Ross against. Supervisor Barb Smith was absent.
