Council debates own, mayoral pay increase
GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center’s elected officials may soon be getting a raise.
Monday the Grundy Center City Council passed the first reading of a measure that would raise compensative for both council members and the mayoral position for the first time in more than 25 years.
Council members have received a base salary that equates to $1,000 per year and the mayor has received $2,700 per year since the last salary increase in 1989.
“I think since there has been no increase in 25 years and the role of a city council member has changed that an increase would be appropriate,” Council member Janetta Miller-Buck said.
