Local church group helps clothe families in need
GRUNDY COUNTY – Last year, council and committee members of the Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Dike decided that with plenty of in-need families right here in Grundy County, they wanted to extend their outreach closer to home.
Their solution – The Family Closet.
The Family Closet is a free, need-based clothing distribution center located in the basement of the Fredsville Church. There are no restrictions based off of location or income, so anyone can come from anywhere and take as much or as little clothing as they want for free, and anonymously.
“With other places, you have to qualify for the service,” said Trisha Weichers, a committee member in charge of the clothing closet. “With us, we don’t have any qualifications. If you have a need, you just come in and get it.”
The closet offers gently-used clothing for infants through adults, for both men and women. The clothing is gathered completely through donations made by people of the church and by the general public.
