GCMH announces building purchase

GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy County Memorial Hospital has announced its plans to purchase the building now occupied by the Grundy County REC, which lies directly north of the hospital.
A real estate purchase agreement between the hospital and the REC has recently been approved by the boards of both organizations, and the hospital is set to take possession of the building on March 1.
Hospital CEO Jennifer Havens said there are currently no plans for any hospital services to move to the building in the immediate future, though the purchase makes sense for the hospital in the long-run.
“Health care services are shifting from Inpatient care to Outpatient, and while our present campus meets our needs, we must look ahead,” she said. “As our hospital Board of Commissioners works to insure the long term viability of the hospital, it makes sense to have ownership and control of the space that surrounds our hospital’s current footprint – even if the space may not be used for hospital services in the foreseeable future.”
Though they currently have no plans to move services into the building, Havens said that the hospital is in preliminary discussions with the Grundy Family YMCA regarding the use of the building.
