Faulty sensors lead to two school evacuations in two days

GRUNDY CENTER – Last week, the Grundy Center Middle School-High School was evacuated on two separate occasions after alarms went off inside the school.
The first alarm sounded on Wednesday afternoon, shortly before school was let out. Students were immediately evacuated and sent home.
A search by Black Hills Energy found that the alarm was triggered by some issues with aging gas lines that were disrupted by summer construction. After the search, the school was given the all-clear and it was deemed safe for students to return on Thursday.
The second alarm sounded shortly after school began on Thursday. Students were evacuated and sent home while Black Hills Energy and the Grundy Center Fire Department searched the building for the cause of the alarm.
