Supervisors approve addition of special exceptions to zoning ordinance

After a public hearing with no comments that lasted less than a minute, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved a change to the zoning ordinance that will primarily affect the Old 56 Dairy located just outside of Grundy Center.

The ordinance will now allow special exceptions in A-1 and A-2 agricultural districts, and festivities at the dairy, which doubles as a special events center, will all go on as originally scheduled after some concerns were raised over potential zoning violations last month. A motion to approve the change passed 4-0 (Chuck Bakker was absent), as did a subsequent motion to waive the second reading and adopt the ordinance.

County Engineer Gary Mauer had a week to review the six bids for bridge project D5 east of T13 and north of Wellsburg and recommended that the board accept the low bid of $114,499.20 from Gus Construction of Casey, well below the engineer’s estimate of $176,542. The vote to accept the bid was unanimous.
