Hen and Chicks announces first ever Creative Harvest Festival

Hen and Chicks owner Heidi Kaisand has a lot of ideas. Since the quilting, arts and crafts store in Conrad first opened almost five years ago, she has been working to expand and branch out with various programs, clinics and other activities, and she recently announced that Hen and Chicks will host the first ever Creative Harvest Festival, a four day event expected to draw visitors from across the Midwest, in downtown Conrad this September.
           
“We’ve had such great support from the community of Conrad that we want to share that, to get more people involved and just show Conrad off to everyone that could possibly want to (see it),” Kaisand said.
           
The four-day event, which will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and run through Saturday, Sept. 24, will feature a host of workshops and classes with Kaisand and seven other guest instructors—Gudrun Erla (stash using), Jenny Flieder (Zentangle), Amanda Herring (quilting and home décor), Ruth Hurd (crocheting), Roseann Kermes (wool) and Carolee McMullin (paper, fabric and thread) and keynote speaker Jo Packham, the editor of “Where Women Create” magazine. Other activities will include a community barbecue on the Thursday night of that week, pumpkin decorating and several no-cost events and seminars.
           
“We can show off what we do best here,” Kaisand said.
