GRUNDY CENTER – Four local volunteers have individually logged 1,000 hours of service at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital – a combined total of over five months of continuous work.
While they’re not the first of the hospital’s 60-plus volunteers to reach 1,000 hours, they are some of the first to reach the milestone at the same time.
Grundy County locals Carol Simms, Joyce Middleton, Mary Lynch and Pat Hauser have all been volunteering at GCHS for the past six years, working at the East J Café and at the welcome desk.
For each of them, they said, volunteering is a way to be helpful and give back.
“It’s something I can do for the community,” Simms said. “It’s good to have a hospital here, that way we don’t have to run to Waterloo to get every little thing done. This is a way for us to show our support.”
