BCLUW board approves 2016-2017 budget

The BCLUW Board of Education approved its operating budget for the 2016-2017 school year and renewed the district’s joint administration agreement with GMG during a meeting at the high school media center on Monday morning.
 
The budget, which was approved unanimously, includes $12,087,565 in total requirements (a slight increase from 2015-2016), with the biggest portion of that coming from instruction costs ($5,130,000). Property taxpayers in the district will receive some substantial relief after the state legislature passed a Supplemental State Aid (SSA) package that provides a 2.25 percent rate of increase in per pupil funding—the levy at BCLUW has been reduced from $13.29 to $12.95 per $1,000 of valuation as a result, and Superintendent Ben Petty noted that it was the lowest rate since he had been with the district.
           
The board then set a budget amendment hearing for the next regular meeting on May 16, which will increase support service expenditures from $2,440,700 to $2,560,110 due to additional expenses and the amount spent on other expenditures from $1,668,731 to $1,776,500 due to summer projects.
