Tuesday Music Club set to present "Reel Music"

It’s become one of the longest running traditions around: every year since 1920, a group of women living within the BCLUW school district spend months preparing for a one-night only show in the spring. This year, the Tuesday Music Club will present “Reel Music,” a tribute to songs that have been made popular in movies, on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at the BCLUW High School Auditorium in Conrad.

This year’s group consists of 30 members, ranging in age anywhere from the mid-20’s to past retirement age. The songs also span a wide time frame as they draw from classics like “The Wizard of Oz,” “Annie,” “Grease,” “South Pacific” and “The Sound of Music” to modern hits such as “Pitch Perfect 2.” The TMC, as its name would suggest, meets on Tuesday of each week for about half of the year preparing the show and begins practicing two or even three times a week as the performance date draws near.

“It all fell together pretty easily. By the time we had our first meeting, we all had several ideas to play around with, and one idea that was brought up was music from movies. Once we decided on the theme, we really fed off of each other’s excitement,” program committee member Jess Gibbs said. “We looked into the music we had available to help narrow down the field and then grouped together songs that were similar in style and theme. Before we knew it, our song list was complete!"
