Local family donates bench to courthouse

GRUNDY CENTER – Every year, the Meyers family gets together in rural Grundy Center for their Meyers Family Reunion, and at last year’s meet up, the group decided they wanted to something special with the extra funds in their treasury.
After some talk, they decided to donate a bench for the Grundy County Courthouse in memory of Samuel and Susanna Meyers, the first of the Meyers who settled in the area in 1877.
 “We wanted to do something visible for the family, so when everyone comes to town for the reunion, they can drive by the courthouse and see the bench, maybe sit for a while,” said Sonja Willhau, whose son Nyle is a fifth generation member of the Meyers family.
