Supervisors approve two planning and zoning appointments

The Grundy County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two appointments to the county’s planning and zoning commission at its regular meeting on Monday morning, but one reappointment still hangs in the balance as it was rejected with three no votes.

Yolonda Butler of rural Eldora and Kim Junker of rural New Hartford recently announced their resignations from the board after serving their five-year terms, and a motion to approve the appointments of Steve Robertson of rural Reinbeck and Keith Sheller of rural Eldora, who were both suggested by supervisor Jim Ross, passed by a 5-0 vote. Sheller’s wife, Dorothy, spoke in favor of the Ivester Wind Farm at a public hearing on the matter and indicated during a phone interview that at least one turbine would be constructed on their land if the project goes according to plan.

The reappointment of Jane Katzer to another five-year term on the board, however, hit a snag when Ross, Harlyn Riekena and chairwoman Barb Smith voted against it. Katzer, of Conrad, was one of the six zoning commission members who voted against the Ivester Wind Farm, and her term expired on Tuesday.
