Johnson triumphs in emotional state wrestling title victory

   DES MOINES – Trent Johnson has given everything to wrestling.
   He grew up on the mats as a kindergarten grappler, spent countless hours in wrestling rooms and weight rooms, traveling to events, finding time for workouts between the other sports he loved playing with his teammates.
   Johnson had already taken home three medals from the state wrestling tournament before he stepped foot in Wells Fargo Arena as a Dike-New Hartford senior.
   Everything he had worked for, everything he had lived for, Johnson wanted so badly for it to result in him standing center stage in “The Well,” with his hand raised for all of his family and friends to see how much his hard work had paid off.
   At long last, Johnson achieved his ultimate goal as the Class 1A 145-pound champion, winning a 6-2 decision over Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Dylan Schuck, the third champion in school history and the first since Chad Eberhart in 1999.
  But the first thing on Johnson’s mind after becoming a state champion was the inspiration for the blood, sweat and tears he poured into the sport he loves.
