Cougars win soggy, stormy home finale

ACKLEY – A weather-shortened 38-0 victory was captured by the AGWSR football team, blanking Clarksville on a rain-soaked field here Friday during 8-Player, District 2 action.
 
The two teams battled in rainy conditions from a light mist all the way to a downpour and everything in-between for nearly three quarters. Lightning was spotted with 2:58 showing in the third quarter, delaying the game followed by Clarksville coach Adam Anthony throwing in the towel.
 
The Cougars piled up 24 first-quarter points to gain control of the contest and owned the 38-0 advantage at the break.
 
Going with a three-gridder wildcat backfield and five-man front, AGWSR waded for 151 rushing yards. Alec Stahl led the straight-ahead attack with 64 yards on 10 carries with 55 yards for Liam Stubbe and 21 for Luke Starr.
 
Starr started the Cougars’ scoring with a one-yard plunge that capped a short three-play 15-yard drive. Starr followed with the two-point run.
