Still cruisin': 11th annual Mike Koch memorial ride held

Rest assured, the Hell’s Angels or the Sons of Silence weren’t gathering for a meet up along Main Street in Conrad on Friday morning. It was just a group of about 25 guys and gals honoring a brother, son and friend who left them too soon.
           
For the 11th straight year, the annual “Cruisin’ for Mike” event, dedicated to the memory of Conrad native and longtime Green Products employee Mike Koch, went off without a hitch. Koch, who died in 2005, had a passion for his work and the people close to him, and his brother Matt and father Mel, the leaders of the ride, do their best to honor him when the second weekend in August rolls around.
           
This year’s ride took the group to Dubuque before heading into western Wisconsin and coming back through northern Illinois and Sabula. Per the standard, they gathered for a short prayer before leaving, but for the first time, Mel wasn’t able to ride due to some health issues.
