REINBECK – Despite missing several players in Friday's game, the BCLUW girls basketball team improvised after a lacking first quarter and distanced themselves from Gladbrook-Reinbeck in a 46-32 NICL West victory.

Allison Engle led the Comets with 10 points, hitting two of BCLUW's seven 3-pointers on the night that helped BCLUW put the game away in the second half. Easton Swanson added eight points and tied with Engle for the team rebounding lead with six boards for each. Jaelyn Allen also had eight points and Katie Thompson and Bailey Ashton scored seven each.

BCLUW coach Dave Lee said a balanced scoring night was just what the Comets needed with leading scorer Madison Ubben out due to complications from a wisdom-tooth extraction over the holiday break. BCLUW also played without post players Lili Wilson and Chloe Walters.

"We didn't start very good," Lee added, "but we fought, we never gave up, and it was really a total team game tonight."
