Safety in school: New visitor management system to be implemented at GC Secondary School

In an effort to be proactive towards safety in the local school system, a new electronic Visitor Management System will be implemented at the Grundy Center Secondary School in the near future. The project is being headed by GCPD Officer Alissa Loew, who is the school district’s SRO (School Resource Officer).
 
According to Loew, the new system will require visitors to the school to scan their I.D. or driver’s license in order to enter the school. After the I.D. is scanned, the system will flag any person who is a registered sex offender in any state, involved in a custody issue with a child at the school or is in some other way a threat to students, and will discretely alert the GCPD of the potential issue. The GCPD can then respond to the situation. For other visitors, the system will print a visitors badge with their time of arrival and their destination.
 
“Right now, it’s up to the secretaries to flag potential threats and call 911,” Loew said. “They don’t always know if someone isn’t supposed to be there, so this will take a lot of stress off of them because they can count on our department to get there and take care of the issue.”
