D-NH goes green: school will install solar panels, create solar kits for classroom learning
Sparked by a student project, the Dike-New Hartford School District is joining the “Go Green” initiative by installing solar panels at the school, which students will use for classroom study.
With the help of a $3,000 grant from the Grundy County Community Foundation - as well as support from the Grundy County REC and Konken Electric - the school will be able to purchase an array of four solar panels which will be installed at the high school. They also plan to purchase and assemble solar kits for each building in the district, for students of all ages to learn about solar power.
D-NH High School Science Teacher Chelsie Slaba and Art Teacher Ryan Mitchell were the driving force behind brining the project to life after a group of students - Jacob Stockdale, Taylor Kvale and Jacob Gibbs - did a class project on how much more efficient the school could be with solar panels.
Taking that into mind, Slaba and Mitchell started applying for grants to make the idea a reality.
