GRUNDY CENTER – Treating every hole like a new experience worked out for Lauren Dirks.

She delivered the only round below 90 at Town and Country in Grundy Center on Monday, turning in an 87 for medalist honors as the Spartan girls moved on to a Class 1A regional final in Brooklyn next Monday, May 20.

"Driving, chipping and putting all worked well," Dirks said. "And just thinking about each hole as a new hole really helped. … The second half I felt like I kept improving and it helped me get to my goal."

The Spartans shot a 374, 33 shots better than runner-up BCLUW. Hudson also advances with the Comets to the regional final after finishing third with a 432. Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Reagan Skovgard qualified as an individual after shooting a 94.

"I had been playing bad recently but my parents told me to have fun today and I went out there and enjoyed it with my group in the nice weather," Skovgard said. "I had a lot of one-putts today, which helped when I had bad chips, I could make up for it when my putts. … I thought I knew the course better a second time around."
