Conrad council hears summary of 20-year plan

During last Thursday night’s regular meeting, Iowa State Professor Carlton Basmajian spoke to the Conrad city council about the major recommendations his students have compiled in a 20-year plan for the community.

While he stressed that none of the suggestions are likely to dramatically transform Conrad, they can help to shape its growth and development as leaders look toward the future. According to Basmajian, some of the key issues raised among residents included retail, recreation, housing and quality of life.

“It’s a town of around 1,000 (1,108 at the 2010 census), and it’s likely to be a town of around 1,000 for a long time,” he said.

He also discussed land use goals and zoning codes to ensure that future developments fit into the overall vision of the town.
