Supervisors approve rezone for future duplexes near Dike
During Monday morning’s regular meeting, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rezone a parcel of land on the east side of Dike that will allow for the construction of up to five new duplexes—despite the objections of a neighbor and conservation director Kevin Williams.
Charles and JoAnn Murphy plan to build five duplexes on Vista Avenue on the east edge of Dike near the Fox Ridge Golf Course and Highway 20. According to county sanitarian Carie Sager, each unit will have its own septic system.
Neighbor Tyson Dirks argued that while he isn’t opposed to seeing a single family home on the property, he doesn’t think building five makes sense.
“I just think that five condo duplexes is too many,” he said. “I feel like there need to be a lot more questions and answers. The cart is kind of ahead of the horse on this one.”
Williams agreed with Dirks and called the plans “sketchy” due to a lack of specificity: Murphy had told the board that they could build anywhere from three to five units. Supervisor Barb Smith, who eventually voted in favor of the rezone, cited her own experience as a developer and called what she’d heard “unusual.”
