Annual tractor ride raises money for scholarships

GRUNDY COUNTY - Nearly 50 tractors took to the road, cruising through Grundy County and beyond on Wednesday afternoon as part of the annual Everyday Tractor Ride - an event that raises money to award scholarships to local students.

The tractor ride is organized by Darwin Cannegieter, a local farmer from Dike, and Karen Richman of the Grundy County Farm Bureau. The ride is sponsored by area businesses that contribute money to award a $1,000 scholarship each year to students looking to pursue an education and career in anything ag-related.

Each year during the Grundy County Fair week, farmers from around the area meet at the fairgrounds and depart for a cruise around the surrounding counties, taking in fun sights at each stop. This year, the riders headed north to visit Parkersburg, then New Hartford and Dike.

“We had a great time, and a really good turnout this year,” Cannegieter said. “There are so many people who come on this ride every year, so you really get to know the riders; a lot of them bring their wife, kids and even grandkids - it’s a generational thing.”
