Ride Safe: Local public health, police department team up for bike safety program
GRUNDY CENTER - A new partnership between the Grundy Center Police Dept., Grundy County Public Health Dept. and local businesses will reward area youngsters for practicing safety when riding their bikes this summer.
Starting this week, GCPD School Resource Officer Alissa Loew will be handing out tickets to local kids who are spotted wearing their helmets and practicing safety while biking, skating or scootering around this summer.
The ticket will reward the recipient with a free treat - anything from an ice cream cone at the ice cream shop, to a snack from a local restaurant - gifted by local businesses.
“The goal is to reward kids for practicing safety while they’re out this summer,” said Katie Thornton-Lang, program coordinator with Grundy County Public Health. “The partnership between Public Health and the police department is a great fit because we both focus on the health and safety of the community - starting with the kiddos.”
