Alburnett knocks out Gladbrook-Reinbeck baseball

ALBURNETT – Gladbrook-Reinbeck baseball's summer came to an end against third-ranked Alburnett, with the Pirates winning a 10-0 game in six innings last Wednesday at Alburnett High School.
  
The game was delayed from Tuesday evening after storms rolled into Alburnett during the conclusion of Belle Plaine vs. North Tama. While that game eventually finished Tuesday night after the field dried out, the nightcap was pushed back 24 hours.
  
Alburnett advanced to last Saturday's district final, 11-1 winners against North Tama in six innings, and the Pirates played a substate final on Tuesday for a chance at state.
  
As for the Rebels, a solid season ends at 16-12, held to two hits by Alburnett pitching and ultimately eliminated in a six-run sixth inning for the Pirates.
  
"They had some quality hits early on," G-R head coach Scott Kiburis said of Alburnett. "Lot of good two-strike approaches. They got runners on and those kids are well-coached on running the bases which puts a lot of pressure on our defense to make plays."
