GRUNDY CENTER – Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck cross country welcomed the competition at last Thursday's home meet at Town and Country Golf Course in Grundy Center.
The GC/G-R boys finished in third as a team to lead area competitors. GC/G-R finished with 105 points, finishing without lead runner Kenny Day who pulled himself from the race at around the 2.5 mile mark.
"His calf tightened up and he pulled himself off," GC/G-R head coach Jackson Anderson said. "That's a judgment call on his part and we knew he was battling some of those aches and pains. He's been off a week recovering from injury and trying to come back full force, this can be expected. We'll work on his recovery and make sure he's healthy for the latter half of the season."
Sam Schildroth and Paul Brockett finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead GC/G-R. Schildroth finished in 17:03 and Brockett got across the line in 17:08. Ethan Sadler followed in 22nd in 17:43 and Soren Cleveland was 30th in 18:03. Brennen Sager placed 40th in 18:38 to finalize GC/G-R's scoring five.
