It didn’t take long for Dike-New Hartford and running back Cade Bennett to set the tone in Friday night’s district matchup with North Linn. And once the senior found an opening in the Lynx defense, he just kept finding them.
“The holes were amazing tonight. Our linemen did a phenomenal job. (It was a) big step up from previous games,” Bennett said.
Bennett finished with 188 yards and four total touchdowns as the Wolverines raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead and defeated North Linn 62-14 in a battle of previously unbeaten teams in Dike. D-NH improved to 5-0 headed into the home stretch and dominated a contest that was expected to be their biggest challenge of the season thus far.
“I felt our kids did a great job of coming out ready to play. We talked all week about turning it up a notch because it’s district football, and we had a good quality opponent coming into our place,” D-NH head coach Don Betts said. “And I felt our kids really came out ready to work tonight.”
The Wolverines forced a three and out on the opening Lynx drive, and on their fourth offensive play of the night, Bennett broke a 33-yarder to move into the red zone. Two plays later, he punched in his first score of the night from three yards out.
