CONRAD – Grundy Center volleyball prevailed against BCLUW last Thursday, Oct. 3, a straight-set victory in a battle between ranked teams that were also undefeated in NICL West play entering the meeting at BCLUW High School.
The Spartans won 25-19, 25-8, 26-24. 2A No. 6 Grundy Center moved to 4-0 in league play with home games against AGWSR and South Hardin left on the docket. The 1A No. 13 Comets fell back to 4-1 with a road game left against West Marshall on Oct. 8.
Abby Hamann finished with a game-high 16 kills, adding 15 digs. Emerson Kracht contributed eight kills, 13 assists and 13 digs to go with six ace serves; Kyah Luhring had four kills and 13 digs and Frannie Brown had 16 digs to lead the defensive effort.
"Finishing clean and making a lot less errors after getting 20 points allowed us to close this out a lot easier," Grundy Center head coach Lori Willis said. "We were spreading the ball around and confusing their blockers a bit and that opened up the defense, which was good because they were doing a great job of digging us. We had to figure out where they were defensively and adjust."
