Friday's basketball roundup: D-NH girls win top-10 clash

DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 55, HUDSON 33: The Dike-New Hartford girls basketball team was strong on the offensive boards and shot well from beyond the 3-point arc in a big win against Class 2A No. 8 Hudson, 55-33 victors.
Katie Knock led 3A No. 7 D-NH with 20 points, including 8-of-12 shooting and 4-of-6 from long range and grabbing seven rebounds. Ellie Foster scored 14 points with seven rebounds and five steals and Morgan Weber had 10 points with six rebounds.
D-NH led 27-13 at halftime. Hudson shot just 11-of-41 (26.8 percent) as a team. The Wolverines outrebounded the Pirates 41-26 and forced 19 steals toward Hudson's 26 turnovers.
D-NH hosted Jesup for a critical NICL East battle on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and wrap the 2019 schedule at Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday, Dec. 20.
WEST MARSHALL 34, AGWSR 31: West Marshall rallied to a 34-31 victory against AGWSR on Friday.
Alyssa Hames scored 13 points with seven rebounds and Rachel Sicard added six points.
The Cougars led 21-16 at halftime but the Trojans surged to a 25-23 lead after three quarters.
AGWSR was hampered by 25 turnovers, compared to just nine for the Trojans. Karlyn Snider led West Marshall with 12 points and three assists and Teresa Disney added nine rebounds.
The Cougars fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the NICL West, while the Trojans improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the division. AGWSR hosted East Marshall on Tuesday and ends the week with a road game at South Hardin before the holiday break.
GLADBROOK-REINBECK 50, EAST MARSHALL 36: After a slow start, Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball picked up momentum and secured the first win of the season in a 50-36 triumph at East Marshall High School.
Mahayla Olson and Saari Kuehl each recorded double-doubles; Kuehl had 16 points and a team-leading 16 rebounds, Mahayla Olson had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Clark added eight points and eight rebounds.
The Rebels (1-4, 1-2 NICL West) trailed 16-7 after the first quarter but rallied for the 22-21 lead at halftime.
G-R dominated the boards, outrebounding East Marshall 45-10, including 17 offensive rebounds. The Rebels also overcame 23 turnovers on Friday and converted enough at the free-throw line, hitting 14-of-28 from the charity stripe.
East Marshall's Olivia Terrones led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting.
Boys
D-NH 66, HUDSON 46: The Wolverines shot well and controlled the rebounding game in a win against the Pirates.
Nathan Moore scored 13 points to lead four D-NH players with at least 10 points, including Zak Wauters (12 points), Drew Sonnenberg (11) and AJ Wegener (10). Wegener contributed team-leading marks with seven reboudns and six assists as well.
D-NH outrebounded Hudson 30-17 and shot 8-of-16 from 3-point range and 23-of-45 from the floor total.
The Wolverines led 30-25 at halftime, stretching it to 49-35 after three quarters. D-NH hit 12-of-16 free throws down the stretch, too.
The Wolverines are 4-0 overall, 3-0 in the NICL East. D-NH still had to get past a Tuesday, Dec. 17 matchup with Jesup in Dike to try and set up a potential meeting between two undefeated teams at Aplington-Parkersburg on Dec. 20.
G-R 64, EAST MARSHALL 42: Tyler Tscherter scored 20 points with eight assists in the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball team's 64-42 win against East Marshall on Friday in Le Grand.
Tscherter was one of three in double figures for the Rebels, joined by William Kiburis (12 points) and Dylan Riffey (10) as the Rebels improved to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the NICL West.
The Rebels scored 26 baskets on 20 assists. Danny Gleissner led the rebounding effort with five boards, five G-R players total had three or more.
G-R led 30-17 at halftime. East Marshall turned the ball over 22 times. Eric Ommen led the Mustangs with 12 points.
WEST MARSHALL 56, AGWSR 55: A putback on a missed free throw in the final seconds pushed the Trojans ahead of the Cougars in a comeback victory for West Marshall on Friday night.
Luke Starr scored 19 points to lead the Cougars. AGWSR led 32-24 at halftime but an 18-7 advantage for the Trojans in the fourth quarter helped West Marshall complete the comeback.
Caleb Keigan led the Trojans with 18 points, West Marshall also outrebounded AGWSR 32-23.
