AGWSR's Lashbrook books third state wrestling trip
DENVER – AGWSR's Trey Lashbrook is making a third-consecutive trip to the state tournament after winning the 120-pound bracket at a district tournament in Denver on Saturday.
Lashbrook defeated Central Springs' Bryce McDonough in sudden victory, 4-2, to lock up the district title and an automatic berth for the state tournament. McDonough finished as runner-up after surviving a 3-1 decision against Lake Mills' Jack Ramaker. Lashbrook will wrestle North Linn's Cade Cook (34-11) in the first-round of the Class 1A 120-pound bracket, scheduled to take the mat shortly after the 6 p.m. start of the 1A session at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The win against McDonough was revenge for Lashbrook, who lost a 6-1 decision to the Central Springs wrestler in the Al DeLeon Invitational round robin earlier this year.
Lashbrook will be looking for his third state medal in as many tries. He was eighth as a freshman and third as a sophomore.
