First COVID-19 case confirmed in Grundy County

GRUNDY COUNTY- The Grundy County Public Health department officially announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 within the county on Friday afternoon.

According to GCPH Director Katie Thornton-Lang, the individual is between the ages of 41 and 60 and is self isolating at home. 

“While this is Grundy County’s first case, it may not be the last, and that’s why we are encouraging all residents to continue to make prevention a priority,” Thornton-Lang said.         

Grundy County is one of the last in the area to report its first confirmed case as numbers have steadily ticked up in Black Hawk, Tama and Marshall Counties, and as of Friday afternoon, the total number of statewide cases had surpassed 700.

Thornton-Lang told The Grundy Register that she is not allowed to disclose which community the individual who tested positive resides in but hopes that all Grundy County residents will practice preventive efforts like social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. She has not indicated how the individual contracted the coronavirus.
