DIKE - The Dike-New Hartford baseball team is placing the season on hold as it awaits results for a member of the coaching staff that was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Dike-New Hartford Superintendent Justin Stockdale issued a press release on Thursday afternoon announcing the move to place the season on hold until the results come in. No practice or games will be held until the test results are known. Thursday's scheduled game in Dike with Hudson has been canceled and future games may be canceled depending on when results come in.

The result of the test will determine the next course of action; teams with a player or coach that tests positive for COVID-19 cannot practice or compete for 14 days.

"As we follow the recommendations from the Iowa Department of Public Health, please know that we are acting out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and families," Stockdale wrote. "At this time, there have been no reports of any other illnesses or symptoms experienced by any other coach or team member."

Dike-New Hartford softball's season will continue as scheduled, including tonight's home game with Hudson.

The Wolverines have a 10-1 record and are currently ranked No. 3 in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
