Sandra Elaine Weiss
Sandra Elaine Weiss, 85, of Holcombe, Wisconsin, formerly of Grundy Center, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 of natural causes at home. She was born July 6, 1935, daughter of Lee and Alice (Barfels) Weiss and grew up on a farm in rural Grundy Center, getting her education in a one-room school. As a child, Sandra loved to roller skate so her father built her a roller skating rink in the haymow of their barn.
As an adult, Sandra lived with her parents, helping them on the farm. In the early 1980s, Sandra moved to Wisconsin to live with her older brother Dale and his wife Winona. Sandra was then employed by several programs that hired the mentally disabled. Most of Sandra’s jobs were doing piece-work assembly and at every job, she was consistently one of the best workers with the greatest productivity. One year, Sandra was trained to microfilm records at the County Courthouse. Sandra was quite proud to do this job and her family was too as Sandra couldn’t read.
Sandra enjoyed doing the various animal chores that came with living with a brother who enjoyed attending bird and animal swaps. Sandra’s handwork was meticulous – whether she was embroidering pillowcases, knitting afghans or coloring pages. Bowling in the Special Olympics program was fun for Sandra. Sandra had a deep faith and was looking forward to living with Jesus in Heaven.
Sandra is survived by her sister-in-law, Winona (Weiss) Turner, Holcombe, Wisconsin, her sister Judy Brenner, Maitland, Florida, her brother Ron (Sandy) Weiss, Evansdale, Iowa along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Delmar and Dale Weiss and sister Joan Mehmen.
A graveside service at the Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck, Iowa will be held at a later date.
