AGWSR to play Newell-Fonda for state spot

ACKLEY – AGWSR volleyball defeated North Iowa and Glidden-Ralston in straight sets to reach the Class 1A Region 3 final played this Wednesday.

The Cougars played Newell-Fonda in a regional final at Fort Dodge High School on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The winner advanced to the 1A state tournament, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

AGWSR defeated North Iowa 25-16, 25-20, 25-19. Brynn Smith smacked 20 kills with 10 kills each from Brylea Metzgar and Trevyn Smith. Trevyn Smith added 33 assists. Tessa Sperfslage had 11 digs and Brynn Smith added 10 digs.

In the final home game in Ackley, AGWSR beat Glidden-Ralston 25-13, 25-13, 25-10.

Brynn Smith struck 17 kills on 32 attacks and added six digs and two blocks. Trevyn Smith had 27 assists, nine kills and nine digs. Elise Olson landed four ace serves on 17-of-17 serving.
